Favorite Scanner: Canon imageFORMULA P-215 Scan-tini

p215

One device that may get overlooked in creating course materials is a good scanner. In my effort to reduce paper clutter, I searched around for a reasonably-priced scanner. I found Canon’s P-215 to be a great buy. It does a few things well that I enjoy:

  1. No power cord. It is powered by USB. There is an option to buy the AC adapter but you do not need it.
  2. Plug and Scan capability. You just plug it in to a USB port, press the Scan button, and your document is scanned. You can scan with or without the included scanner software.
  3. It can handle multiple documents at once. I believe the limit is 20 sheets.
  4. It can handle different paper sizes. See Canon’s website for details.
  5. It scans both sides at once. This reduces the time to scan!
  6. It can scan directly to Evernote, Google Drive or Dropbox. Useful when you are on the road and want to keep a backup copy.
  7. Speaking of on the road, it is portable.

I have used this scanner for over a year now and am very satisfied. I bought it after reading the many positive reviews on Amazon and it has not disappointed. There is a newer version (P-215 II), which is cheaper and probably as good as the original P-215, but I have not seen any reviews.

Another recommended scanner is Fujitsu’s ScanSnap iX100. It is similar to the P-215. You may want to check it out as well.
